St. Croix-born recording artist and songwriter, Rozee will be appearing on NBC’s new songwriting competition series, “Songland” on Wednesday at 9 p.m. EDT, a release from the artists’s publicist has made known. “Songland” serves as a destination for music’s biggest stars and provides an authentic peek into the creative process of songwriting. A winner each episode is given the opportunity to have their song recorded and released worldwide by chart-topping artists.
Rozee is featured as a songwriter and pitches an original creation to Grammy nominated artist, Leona Lewis, along with a panel of well-established music producers including; Ryan Tedder (lead singer of OneRepublic and Grammy Award-winning producer of Adele and Taylor Swift), Ester Dean (Grammy-nominated songwriter and producer of Rihanna and Katy Perry) and Shane McAnally (Grammy-winning songwriter and producer of Kacey Musgraves and Sam Hunt with 40 #1 country records). Rozee was selected for “Songland” after being discovered while performing in Los Angeles at Hotel Café in Hollywood.
“I had an amazing experience on ‘Songland’ and learned so much about the process of making music during the taping of my episode,” said Rozee, whose birth name is Rosalyn Lockhart. “The experience provided a great opportunity to learn from industry professionals and I grew personally as a recording artist and songwriter. I am excited to see the episode and look forward to new opportunities that come my way as a result of being on this type of national stage.”
Rozee’s debut EP, “RETROSPECT” was released in May and is available on all major music platforms. Tapping into a sultry and soulful, confidently cool yet raw and vulnerable alt R&B/pop vibe, the songs on Retrospect are deeply personal. They reflect on a recent relationship from a deeply honest place and take to heart the lessons Rozee has learned.
Rozee was born on St. Croix and grew up in the U.S. Virgin Islands. She recently moved to the Washington, D.C. region after living in Los Angeles for over six years. The daughter of a minister/vocalist and self-taught pianist/organist, Rozee learned the basics of pitch and harmonization at a very young age. While earning her college degree in Miami, Florida, she began developing her skills as a vocalist, writing and recording demos.
The Consortium interviewed Rozee on May 17. During the interview, the singer wowed the audience with an acoustic rendition backed by singer/guitarist Gyasi Clarke, of her hit song Intoxicated.
Rozee is gearing up to release a fresh, Latin fired remix of her latest single “Best For Me,” produced by Alessandro “Mister AC” Calemme and featuring reggaeton artist (and fellow St. Croix native) Kruziano.
