UVI Cancels Classes on Thursday Following Passage of Hurricane Dorian; Essential Employees to Report to Work, Regular Employees at Noon

The University of the Virgin Islands has canceled classes on both campuses following the passage of Hurricane Dorian, UVI announcement Wednesday night.  Essential UVI employees are asked to report in at their regular time on Thursday, Aug. 29. Non-essential employees are asked to report in at noon. 

According to the National Hurricane Center’s 8 p.m. advisory, Hurricane Dorian was located at 19.2 north, 65.7 west with maximum sustained winds of 80 miles per hour moving at 13 miles per hour. There are no watches or warnings in effect for the US Virgin Islands.

Information on steps to prepare for inclement weather can be found on UVI’s Emergency Preparedness webpage via this direct link: Emergency Preparedness.  All UVI students and employees are encouraged to sign-up for UVI Bucs Alerts emergency messages, which is used to share critical information via text messages and e-mail. Participants can simply add their cell phone numbers and e-mail addresses to the “Personal Information” page in UVI’s BanWeb accounts.
