ST. THOMAS — V.I.P.D. officers in St. Thomas on Friday arrested three men following the discharging of gunshots during an attempted robbery incident, V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Karl Caesar has announced.
According to police, on Friday at approximately 1:06 p.m., V.I.P.D. patrol officers, crime scene technicians and detectives from the Criminal Investigation Bureau responded to a 911 call of shots fired in the Estate Thomas area.
Upon arrival to the scene, officers found a Hispanic female lying on the ground being attended to by emergency medical technicians.
A preliminary investigation revealed that during an attempted burglary of an apartment in the area involving three male suspects, gunshots were discharged. The Hispanic female fell while trying to flee from the gunfire, resulting in injuries that required medical attention at Schneider Regional Medical Center, according to police.
Further investigation and intense pursuit by officers were conducted in Estate Thomas and the surrounding areas in search of the suspects, Mr. Caesar said. As a result, officers intercepted a vehicle at the bus stop area of Yacht Haven Grande and were able to arrest the three male suspects whom were positively identified by one of the victims involved in the incident, according to Mr. Caesar.
Police arrested Javier Anderson DeJesus, Rory Tati-Liz and Angel Alejandro Guerrero -Belel in connection with the incident and charged them with first-degree assault.
The three suspects were turned over to the Bureau of Corrections pending their advisement hearing. This incident is under investigation by the Criminal Investigation Bureau.
