Bryan Issues Proclamation To Commemorate 9/11

News / Virgin Islands / September 11, 2019

Governor Albert Bryan has issued a proclamation commemorating September 11, 2019, as “Patriot Day: A Day of Remembrance in the United States Virgin Islands” to honor the men and women lost in the September 11, 2001 terror attacks, Government House has announced.

The governor on Tuesday reflected on the lives of the Virgin Islanders lost in the attacks and during the ensuing global war on terror and encouraged the greater Virgin Islands community to keep the memory of those individuals near and also to keep their surviving loved ones in their prayers on this solemn occasion, according to Government House.

“The best way to honor the victims of that fateful day is never to forget them, and never to forget the loved ones they have left behind,” Mr. Bryan said.

He added: “September 11, 2001, has impacted the everyday lives of us all. It has changed the way we travel and our nation’s foreign policy priorities.”

“As the Commander in Chief of our Virgin Islands Air and Army National Guard, I am ever cognizant of the impact this day has had and continues to have on our Virgin Islands servicemen and women and their families, and cognizant of the fact we have now crossed the threshold of sending young men and women born after September 11, 2001, to theater to fight the global war on terror.

“I ask the people of the U.S. Virgin Islands to take a moment to remember our brothers and sisters lost that day and to keep their loved ones, and our servicemen and women overseas in your thoughts and prayers.”
