Two tropical waves are forecast to move across the region, the first one on Sunday and the other on Monday, the National Weather Service advised Friday.
N.W.S. said the activity will increase the potential for showers and thunderstorms with strong gusty winds across the region. Hazardous seas are possible across the Atlantic waters on Tuesday due to a long period northerly swell and a high risk of rip currents is expected between Tuesday and Wednesday across the north facing beaches of the islands.
The Virgin Islands Territorial Emergency Management Agency, which said it will continue to monitor the systems, said residents should take the following steps:
- Stay safe – If you do not have an immediate need to traverse during periods of heavy rainfall, remain indoors and continue to monitor weather reports. Do not walk, swim, or drive through flood waters. Turn Around, Don’t Drown!
- Take Your Time – You may feel tempted to operate vehicles faster in the rain, but DON’T. The rain makes surfaces and roads slick. Pay attention to your surroundings, leave extra space ahead, and move more slowly – especially in periods of low visibility due to heavy rainfall.
- Keep Windows from Fogging Up – When driving in rain, windows tend to fog up. To stay safe and avoid accidents, simply press your car’s defrost button to clear-up the window.
