ST. CROIX– V.I.P.D. detectives on Friday night arrested two men in connection with the 2018 murder of Emile Brin, who was found burned beyond recognition in a vehicle abandoned in Hams Bluff.
Akeem Stanley, 26, was arrested by members of the Criminal Investigation Bureau and charged with first-degree murder and second-degree arson for his role in the July 14, 2018, murder of Mr. Brin.
Josiah Sharplis, 22, was arrested by C.I.B. detectives and charged with accessory after the fact to murder and arson. He was also charged with misprision of a felony in connection with his role in the murder of Mr. Brin.
According to V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Glen Dratte, Mr. Brin was reported missing by his mother on July 14, 2018, and later that day a body was discovered burned beyond recognition in a vehicle at Hams Bluff, Frederiksted.
An investigation into the incident revealed that Mr. Brin was killed in a home in Frederiksted by Mr. Stanley and another individual whom the V.I.P.D. did not name, and they were assisted by Mr. Sharplis to dispose of the body, according to Mr. Dratte.
Unable to make bail of $1 million, both men were remanded to the Bureau of Corrections pending their advisement hearing.
St. Croix Police Chief William Harvey thanked Chief Detective Lt. Naomi Joseph and all the members from the Criminal Investigation Bureau to include officers, as they continue to build strong cases against individuals committing crimes, according to the V.I.P.D. release. Chief Harvey further stated that the community’s assistance remains extremely important in providing information which allows detectives to create major breakthroughs in these cases.
