ST. CROIX — United States Attorney Gretchen C.F. Shappert has announced that Zakee Abdur Rasheed, 48, of St. Croix, was sentenced to 3 years probation including 3 months of home detention for possession of an identification document with intent to defraud by District Court Magistrate Judge George W. Cannon on September 12. Judge Cannon also ordered Rasheed to pay a special assessment of $25.00 and waived imposition of a fine.
According to a plea agreement filed with the court, in or about 2012, Rasheed arranged to and did obtain a Virgin Islands driver’s license in the name and date of birth for M. H. The license bore a photograph of Rasheed’s wife, Ameena Ali. Rasheed intended that the false driver’s license would be used to file an application for a United States passport for Ameena Ali in the name of M. H.
The case was investigated by the U.S. Department of State – Diplomatic Security Service. It was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Alphonso Andrews, Jr.
