ST. CROIX – The Juan F. Luis Hospital and Medical Center (J.F.L.) laboratory earned the Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval for laboratory accreditation by demonstrating continuous compliance with its performance standards, according to a release the hospital recently issued.
The Joint Commission is an independent, nonprofit organization that accredits and certifies over 22,000 health care organizations and programs in the United States, according to a description on its website. Joint Commission accreditation and certification is recognized nationwide as a symbol of quality that reflects an organization’s commitment to meeting certain performance standards.
The JFL lab underwent a rigorous unannounced onsite inspection from June 25 to 27, according to the release. A Joint Commission surveyor evaluated lab’s compliance with the Commission’s standards, which are developed in consultation with health care experts and providers, measurement experts and patients. The surveyor also conducted onsite observations and interviews.
“As a private accreditor, the Joint Commission surveys health care organizations to protect the public by identifying deficiencies in care and working with those organizations to correct them as quickly and sustainably as possible,” said Mark Pelletier, the commission’s C.E.O. of accreditation and certification operations and chief nursing executive. “We commend JFL for its continuous quality improvement efforts in patient safety and quality of care.”
JFL CEO Dyma Williams said the hospital’s leadership team was pleased to receive the Joint Commission’s gold seal of approval for laboratory accreditation.
