Scotiabank, Banco Popular and Firstbank will open for business today, the banks have announced in separate notices.
Scotiabank will open in both districts from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.; Banco Popular said it will open for regular business hours; and Firstbank will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
The banks, along with government offices and schools were closed on Tuesday as Tropical Storm Karen passed through the USVI and Puerto Rico. While the storm is expected to move away from the territory by late morning today, the National Hurricane Center in its 2:00 a.m. Wednesday advisory said “strong squalls located to the south and southeast of the center will continue to affect those areas early this morning before subsiding by late morning.”
Governor Albert Bryan, who tentatively announced the reopening of schools for today, was set to make a final determination during a 6:30 a.m. press briefing call.
