ST. CROIX — A 23-year-old man was shot to death in Barren Spot on Wednesday night, V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Glen Dratte has announced.

The Consortium learned that the young man was dropping his mother home after she was discharged from the Juan F. Luis Hospital for an undisclosed illness. As the family, including the father, arrived to their Baren Spot home, assailants discharged multiple shots at the son just outside the house, according to a police source.

Mr. Dratte said the 911 emergency call center received notification of the incident at 10:54 p.m. Monday, and immediately dispatched police to the scene.

Upon arrival, officers discovered an unresponsive black male with multiple shell casings on the road surrounding a vehicle and the body.

The deceased was identified by his parents as Khamir Powell, 23.
