Extension To File Taxes Ends On Oct. 15, B.I.R. Reminds

Community Center / News / Virgin Islands / October 3, 2019

The Bureau of Internal Revenue on Thursday reminded taxpayers who applied for the automatic extension of time to file their 2018 income tax returns, that the deadline to file the return is Tuesday, October 15.

B.I.R. reminded taxpayers that when filing their income tax returns, the documents should be reviewed to assure that the right mailing address is included. Taxpayers who cannot afford to pay the taxes due at this time are encouraged to file by the deadline to avoid the imposition of a penalty, said the Bureau.

Taxpayers unable to pay the tax due in full are urged to set up a payment plan. This will allow the taxpayers to seek alternate methods of payment with the Bureau, B.I.R. Director Joel Lee explained. Taxpayers are urged to come in and meet with the representatives of the Delinquent Accounts and Returns Branch to set up payment plans.
