Lt. Gov. Roach Out Of Territory For Fall NAIC Meeting; Deadline To Pay Property Tax Extended

Community Center / News / Virgin Islands / October 9, 2019

Lieutenant Governor Tregenza Roach left the territory Tuesday to attend the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) Fall Southeast Zone Meeting in Little Rock, Arkansas, Mr. Roach’s office has announced. The NAIC organization is responsible for establishing insurance standards and serves as a primary lead for regulatory oversight on insurance relations and matters related to insurance policies.

In his capacity as the commissioner of Insurance, Mr. Roach serves as a member of NAIC and actively participates in various conferences and meetings paid for by the NAIC, his office said.

The NAIC Southeast (SE) Zone consists of 12 states, and two U.S. territories (Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands). At the Fall SE Zone Business Meeting, participants will discuss state affairs, receive updates on federal policies, and participate in regulatory planning sessions, according to the release.

Mr. Roach will return to the territory on Saturday. During his absence, Senate President Novelle Francis will assume the duties of the lieutenant governor, as per the Revised Organic Act of the Virgin Islands.

Property tax deadline extension

Mr. Roach on Tuesday informed residents that they have until Tuesday, October 15 to pay their property tax bills without charges for delinquency or other fees.

“The 60-day deadline for property tax payments falls on Monday, October 14, 2019, which is recognized and celebrated as Virgin Islands/Puerto Rico Friendship Day. The Office of the Lieutenant Governor will accommodate residents by accepting payments on Tuesday, October 15, 2019, due to the scheduled holiday,” said the lieutenant governor.

He further cautioned residents that properties for which there are delinquencies will become eligible for the collection and auction process. Delinquencies prior to 2019 will also be eligible for the collection and auction process, according to the release.
