Check the cup holder in your car. Rummage through the glovebox and under the seat. Look in the pockets of those pants you haven’t worn in a few months.
Somewhere out there is a $2 million Powerball ticket purchased on St. Thomas that has gone unclaimed for nearly six months.
And now the ticket holder’s luck is about to expire.
According to the Virgin Islands Lottery Office, the $2 million ticket was sold at the lottery outlet at Port of Sale Mall on April 26, 2019, one day before the big drawing.
The winning numbers drawn on April 27th were:
02, 29, 41, 45, 62 and Powerball 06
The ticket was purchased on a late April Friday afternoon.
The season was winding down, but two of the small, luxury cruise ships — the the Silverseas’ Silver Wind with 294 passengers and the Crystal Serenity carrying 1,070 passengers — were docked Havensight for the day.
Perhaps the winning ticket was purchased by a tourist, and quickly forgotten or misplaced. If that’s the case, a visitor left a few million dollars behind in paradise.
Or a lucky Virgin Islander snagged the winning number and has, for reasons unknown, not yet cashed in.
Oct 24, 2019, is the last day to claim the $2 million prize. The Powerball website says that prizes other than the jackpot must be claimed within 180 days of the drawing.
A VI Lottery official did not respond Monday to requests for comment.
