ST. THOMAS — woman told police on Friday that her estranged husband assaulted her, took her house keys and cellphone and fled the area, V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Glen Dratte has announced.
The incident occurred in the wee hours of Friday morning at a residence in Estate Dorothea, and the V.I.P.D.’s Domestic Violence Unit was notified by the victim’s minor son at about 7:00 p.m. the same day.
Upon arrival to the residence, contact was made with the female victim, who told police that on Friday at about 3:00 a.m., her estranged husband, identified as Henry Richards, Jr., came to her residence and physically assaulted her, striking her several times to her face and body.
According to police, the suspect then left the scene, came back, broke through the son’s bedroom window, broke down the wife’s bedroom door and assaulted her again — this time taking her cellphone and house keys.
The victim’s son later called 911 to report the incident.
As of Tuesday morning, Mr. Richards was still at large, according to Mr. Dratte. The V.I.P.D. is asking anyone with information about his whereabouts to contact the police force at 340-777-2211, or send an anonymous tip to Crime Stoppers USVI here.
