ST. THOMAS — St. Thomas police in the wee hours on Sunday morning arrested 20-year-old Ta’riq Springette and charged him with possession of an unlicensed firearm and possession of ammunition, V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Glen Dratte has announced.
The arrest, weapon and ammunition confiscation occurred following a stabbing at the Tap and Still bar in St. Thomas, while police were inspecting the area for possible suspects, according to Mr. Dratte.
During the inspection, police said they noticed a vehicle with the tag “DEVO” attempting to leave the area through a one-lane road for opposite direction traffic. A traffic stop was then conducted on the vehicle with the “DEVO” tag. During the inspection, a 9mm Glock and a 30-round magazine were confiscated.
Mr. Springette, who said the gun and ammunition belonged to him, further admitted that he did not have a license to carry a firearm.
Unable to make bail of $25,000, the suspect was remanded to the Bureau of Corrections pending his advisement hearing.
