Labor Day: VI Businesses, Government Offices Closed

News / Virgin Islands / August 31, 2014

As Virgin Islanders get ready to celebrate the Labor Day holiday with camping, BBQ, beach parties and the like, major business are also taking Monday off along with Government agencies.

Mammoth firms like Innovative will be closed — including its cable TV, Internet and Telephone divisions on St. Thomas and St. Croix.

Choice Communications will also be closed tomorrow, however its call centers will remain open to serve customers who may need assistance. The communications company will reopen its doors on Tuesday morning at 9 a.m.

Other places closed on Labor Day include:

  • Banks
  • Post Offices
  • Schools
  • Courts

If you have garbage to dispose of, the Anguilla Landfill on St. Croix will be open until 1 p.m. tomorrow, the Bovoni Landfill on St. Thomas will remain open until 2 p.m. and the Susannaberg transfer station on St. John shut its doors at 12 p.m.

Of course there are many private businesses that will be closed on Monday, but for some, including restaurant workers and others in the hospitality industry, the work  not only continues; it’s amplified.

Be sure to enjoy the holiday with family and friends.

I wear many hats, I suppose, but the one which fits me best would be journalism, second to that would be radio personality, thirdly singer/songwriter and down the line. I've been the Editor-In-Chief at my videogames website, Gamesthirst, for over 5 years, writing over 7,000 articles and more than 2 million words. I'm also very passionate about where I live, the United States Virgin Islands, and I'm intent on making it a better place by being resourceful and keeping our leaders honest. VI Consortium was birthed out of said desire, hopefully my efforts bear fruit. Reach me at [email protected].
