ST. THOMAS — For the second straight day, island-wide power outages struck the St. Thomas- St. John district.
A service interruption hit all major Water and Power Authority feeders that energize most of St. Thomas and all of St. John at about 2:35 p.m. today, Monday.
Island-wide outages left businesses and homeowners in the dark for several hours Sunday evening, as well.
WAPA failed shortly before 7 p.m. and was able to restore power just over an hour later — only to fail again at 10:00 p.m.
WAPA said the two days of major electrical service interruption were the result of the loss of generation capacity at the Randolph Harley Power Plant on St. Thomas.
