The Bank of St. Croix located in Gallows Bay was robbed by masked gunmen who managed to flee the scene without being captured by police, according to police spokesperson, Melody Rames.
The incident took place Tuesday at 11:45 a.m. and included two masked men, both armed, one over 6 feet tall wearing khaki pants and multi-colored sneakers; while the other man was short, and wore camouflage-colored pants and shirt. Both men also wore black, hooded sweatshirts.
According to Rames, the tall man, who also had dreadlocks, jumped over the counter and proceeded to steal money from the bank while the other man guarded the door.
It is not yet known how much money was stolen and no injuries were reported.
Although the VIPD responded swiftly, they did not arrive in enough time to capture the suspects; however, checkpoints were created around the vicinity, as police continued their search.
The Bank of St. Croix robbery is the latest in a string of incidents that have plagued St. Croix.
On August 10th masked men robbed Crucian Gold at around 11:15 a.m., looting jewelry and making away with an undisclosed amount of money. Friday, July 4th saw three armed men robbing Mid-Island Credit Union, attacking employees and stealing their money and cellphones. And just two weeks ago, St. Croix Senator Diane Capehart was carjacked at gunpoint by two men while putting up campaign signs on the Melvin Evans Highway in the Hanna’s Rest area.
