A man was carjacked in Frederiksted on Tuesday night just after leaving a bar by two armed men, the V.I.P.D. has revealed.
Former Senator Bent Lawaetz, whose name was not released by the V.I.P.D., said he had just left a bar and restaurant located just north of Frederiksted and moved toward his vehicle that was parked in a lot across the street when two masked men wearing dark clothing approached him. The two men pushed Lawaetz to the ground, grabbed his car keys and taking off in his white, four-door Honda CRV.
Lawaetz rejected medical attention because he was not hurt.
Last night’s carjacking was the latest in a string of crimes besetting the island of St. Croix, and police are asking anyone with information regarding this case to call detectives at 712-6031, 712-6024, 911 or make an anonymous report to Crime Stoppers USVI at 1-800-222-TIPS.
On August 10, masked men robbed Crucian Gold at around 11:15 a.m., looting jewelry and making away with an undisclosed amount of money. Friday, July 4 saw three armed men robbing Mid-Island Credit Union, attacking employees and stealing their money and cellphones. And just two weeks ago, St. Croix Senator Diane Capehart was carjacked at gunpoint by two masked men while putting up campaign signs on the Melvin Evans Highway in the Hannah’s Rest area.
