The following are some upcoming community events you should know about.
ST. CROIX
Register to Vote!
The November 4 General Election is mere weeks away…and this is your last chance to register to vote! To accommodate the high numbers of prospective voters, the St. Croix District Board of Elections
has extended voter registration hours Mon., Sept. 29 to Sun., Oct. 5.
The remaining dates and times are:
- October 2 & 3 — 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
- October 4 & 5 — Noon to 3:00pm
You may register at the Election Board office in the Sunny Isle Annex Unit 4, 93A (adjacent to K-mart Auto). VI Code recognizes Oct. 5 as the final day to register to vote.

FREE Fire Safety and Prevention Workshop
The Home Depot, in partnership with the V.I. Fire Service, V.I. Police Department and V.I.T.E.M.A. will present a fire safety and prevention workshop titled, “Don’t Play With Fire,” on Sat., Oct. 4 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m at the Home Depot Parking Lot.
The event is chock full of a host of family-friendly activities, including:
- VIPD Crime Prevention Bureau Presentation – Operation ID
- Safety and Prevention Demonstrations
- Product Knowledge – Smoke Detectors & Fire Extinguishers
- Stop, Drop & Roll Technique
- Kids Workshop
There also will be giveaways, raffle drawings and music. Plus, don’t miss special appearances by Smokey the Bear and Sparky the Fire Dog.
The event is FREE and open to the public.
Women’s Coalition of St. Croix to Hold Supermarket Campaign
In recognition of National Domestic Violence Awareness Month and its on-going effort to support victims of domestic abuse and violence, the Women’s Coalition of St. Croix will host its annual Supermarket Campaign at Kmart West and Plaza East on Oct. 4 and Oct. 18 to collect items for its shelter. The organization is requesting donations of personal care items and toiletries.

ST. THOMAS
Get Involved VI To Host Gubernatorial Forum
The non-partisan, political action group Get Involved VI will host a gubernatorial forum on Sun., Oct. 5 at the Charlotte Amalie High School Auditorium at 5:00 p.m. Attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions and voice their concerns directly to candidates. The forum is a part of Get Involved VI voter-awareness campaign titled, “Talk is Cheap. Votes are Priceless.” For more information, visit the group’s Facebook page at www.facebook.com/getinvolvedvi.

Sen. Nelson to Host Marijuana Forum with Medical Professionals
St. Croix Senator Terrance “Positive” Nelson, in conjunction with the University of the Virgin Islands, will host a public forum with medical professionals on the role marijuana plays in healthcare. The forum will be held on Mon., Oct. 6 from 5:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. in the first-floor conference room of UVI’s Administration and Conference Center. There will be question and answer segments throughout.
The event is FREE and open to the public.
