Extension Deadline for 2013 Income Tax Filing Is October 15

Featured / News / Virgin Islands / October 14, 2014

Taxpayers who applied for the six-month automatic extension to file their 2013 income tax returns are reminded that the filing deadline is Wednesday, October 15.

The reminder comes from Claudette Watson-Anderson, CPA, director of the Virgin Islands Bureau of Internal Revenue. She noted that when filing 2013 income tax returns, taxpayers should review their mailing address and ensure it is correct. Taxpayers should also ensure the return is signed and include a daytime telephone number to allow Bureau personnel to make contact, if necessary.

Watson-Anderson said taxpayers who cannot afford to pay the full tax amount due should still file the tax return by the Oct. 15 deadline in order to avoid failure to file penalties, which is five percent per month. Payment arrangements can be made by meeting with a representative in the Delinquent Accounts and Returns Branch.
