The St. Croix District Elections System office is closed through Monday, Feb. 2 due to an “intense odor,” according to Elections Supervisor Caroline Fawkes.
While Fawkes said the source of the odor has been identified internally, she did not reveal its origin to the media. However, she said “corrective action has been taken to address the issue.”
People with direct knowledge of the situation tell VI Consortium the smell is likely from a dead rat in the office suite, located in Unit 4 of the Sunny Isle Annex.
The office will reopen during regular business hours on Monday, Feb. 2.
