Mapp Sends Additional Nominees To Senate, Hopes For “Prompt And Favorable Process”

Featured / Government / Politics / Virgin Islands / February 4, 2015

Governor Kenneth Mapp has sent two additional nominees to the Senate for approval, and said he would like them to receive, along with those already sent, a “prompt and favorable confirmation process, thus allowing us to meet mandates and better serve the people of the Virgin Islands.”

Virgin Islands Police Department Commissioner Designee Delroy Richards and Nellon Bowry, the governor’s pick for director of management and budget were set to the Senate on Tuesday. They join a dozen more candidates who Mapp had already submitted to Senate President Neville James for approval.

They include:

  1. Pedro Cruz-Commissioner Designee for Sports, Parks and Recreation
  2. Vivian Ebbesen-Fludd – Commissioner Designee for Human Services
  3. Milton E Potter – Director Designee for Personnel
  4. Eugene Farrell – Director Designee for Fire Services
  5. Gustav James – Commissioner Designee for Public Works
  6. Beverly Nicholson-Doty – Commissioner Designee for Tourism
  7. Carlos Robles – Commissioner Designee for Agriculture
  8. Devin Carrington – Commissioner Designee for Licensing and Consumer Affairs
  9. Marvin Pickering – Director Designee for the Bureau Internal Revenue
  10. Sharon McCollum – Commissioner Designee for Education
  11. Valdamier Collens – Commissioner Designee for Finance
  12. Lawrence Olive – Director Designee for the Bureau of Motor Vehicles

The governor, however, has yet to announce a replacement for former Attorney General Designee Soraya Diase-Coffelt, who resigned her position after two weeks on the job, contending it would have been impossible for her to perform her job duties because of what she said were broken promises made by Mapp, who, through his Chief of Staff Randy Knight, blocked her from making the necessary decisions concerning the operations of the Department of Justice she headed.

While Mapp searches for a new Attorney General, Attorney Terri Griffiths will continue to hold the acting AG position.

In relation to when the process of ratifying the nominees would begin, no set dates have been given, but hearings are expected to commence in the coming weeks.
