A vehicle reported as stolen in St. Thomas was retrieved by police on Feb. 16, VIPD Public Information Officer Kevin Jackson has announced.
Along with the stolen vehicle, police also seized an unlicensed firearm from the suspect.
According to Jackson, 22-year-old Javan Benjamin of Bordeaux, St. Thomas, was driving the stolen vehicle when he was stopped and questioned by police. While conducting a search of the vehicle and of Benjamin, officers found an unlicensed firearm hidden in Benjamin’s pants.
Benjamin was charged with using a vehicle without authorization and possession of an unlicensed firearm. Unable to post bail set at $35,000 by court order, he was turned over to the Bureau of Corrections, pending his advise of rights hearing.
