Leon Nisbett of St. Croix was taken into police custody for questioning in connection with a gun being fired into the apartment of a woman living in the Harborview Apartments early Friday morning, VIPD Public Information Officer Kevin Jackson has announced.
According to Jackson, a female resident reported to police that at 5:30 a.m. on Friday she was awakened to sounds of someone banging loudly and repeatedly on her front door. Looking through the peephole, she saw the father of her children, Nisbett, who began shouting at her and accusing her of having another man in the apartment. The complainant’s friend, a woman who resides at the apartment, called 911 for assistance.
Before police could arrive, the women say they heard the sound of a vehicle driving off in a south-westerly direction. Several minutes later, they heard a vehicle pull up to the south of the apartment and then heard a gunshot. Looking out the window, the complainant saw Nisbett driving a vehicle that she was familiar with, as it belonged to one of his friends.
Officers found a bullet fragment that appeared to be a projectile in the apartment and also observed that the apartment’s rear sliding door was shattered.
The complainant gave police a full description of Nisbett, along with his home address. He was later found by police and taken in for questioning.
Police did not say if Nisbett was arrested and held.
