Governor Kenneth Mapp today signed a contract for the reconstruction of Brookman Road on St. Thomas, Government House has announced.
The $3,871,440.00 contract to rebuild the road, which collapsed in 2013 after heavy rainfall and was subsequently closed, was awarded to longtime St. Thomas paving company Islands Roads, Inc., according to the press release.
Kimberly Jones, Mapp’s Communications Director, said the governor is “excited” that the territory’s roads are being rebuilt, and he wanted to “make sure the people know we are fixing these roads.”
Jones said more information concerning where the money will be coming from and other pertinent details will be shared with the public soon, however once a Notice to Proceed is issued, it’s expected that work will commence immediately and be completed within a year.
Calls made to the Department of Public Works were not returned as of press time.
