A St. Croix man on his way back from a beach nearby the David Hamilton Jackson Housing Community, also known as Red Brick, was injured by gunfire Monday night as two individuals in the housing community were engaged in a gunfight, according to VIPD Public Information Officer Kevin Jackson.
Jackson said the 911 Emergency Call Center received a call at around 6:05 p.m. Monday of two individuals fighting and shooting at each other at the housing community. Then, at roughly 6:23 p.m., the Emergency Call Center received another report from Juan F. Luis Hospital emergency room indicating that a shooting victim had arrived there seeking treatment.
According to Jackson, officers and detectives responding to the call at the hospital interviewed the victim, a resident of Estate Morning Star, who said he was walking back from the beach when he heard shots being fired. The man said he began to run, at which point he realized he had been shot.
The victim, who sustained non-life-threatening gunshot wounds to the left side of his body, said he was transported to the emergency room by an unknown person, and that he had no idea who had shot him.
The shooting incident is being investigated by the Criminal Investigation Bureau.
