$10,000 Goes To Education Programs On St. Croix After Iron Bartender Competition

News / Virgin Islands / April 9, 2015

ST. CROIX – Schools on St. Croix can now apply for a stake in the proceeds from the inaugural Iron Bartender Competition that took place on March 27.

Hosted by the Rotary Club of St. Croix, the fundraiser featured a “mixology competition” that included six bartenders from St. Croix who competed for prizes and the title of “Iron Bartender.”

The first place win went to Lexi DeLoach of Rhythms at Rainbow Beach Bar and Restaurant. Both she and a guest will receive roundtrip tickets to New Orleans to attend the “Tales of a Cocktail” event, which is slated to take place in July. There, the two will get a chance to indulge in concoctions created by the city’s best-known mixologists.

Iron Bartender’s second place title went to Eric Gautreau of the Bush Nook.

Proceeds from the local event will help the Rotary Club to grant more than $10,000 towards educational programs on St. Croix between now and the end of July, according to a Rotary news release issued today.

For additional information on the fundraiser or on how to apply for the available grant monies, those interested should contact Kim DeLine via e-mail at [email protected] or via phone at (340)227–7095.

The first set of applications will be reviewed on April 15. Subsequent applications for grants from this fund will be reviewed quarterly, according to the release.
