ST. THOMAS — 39-year-old Aaron Stockdale was arrested on Saturday morning and charged with driving under the influence (DUI) of alcohol after slamming into a police vehicle and fleeing the scene, VIPD Public Information Officer Kevin Jackson has announced.
The incident occurred at around 1:04 a.m. while the affected officers were on parole in Nadir.
According to Jackson, the officers were headed westward on Nicholas Friday Drive when a GMC Canyon, operated by Stockdale, was coming out of the intersection of the same area. Stockdale collided into the left side of the police unit and immediately fled the scene heading towards the Red Hook area, where the truck he was operating became disabled.
One of the officers was given a ride by a private motorist that was driving by, and Stockdale was later found in the area of Frydenhoj.
Officers suspected that Stockdale was under the influence of alcohol and proceeded to test him with a breathalyzer, which revealed that he had a blood alcohol content of .243. Along with the DUI charge, Stockdale was also charged with leaving the scene of an accident, operating an uninsured vehicle and operating a vehicle without a valid driver’s license.
The officers were taken to the Roy Lester Schneider Regional Medical Center by another police unit, where they were treated for minor injuries and subsequently released.
