ST. CROIX – The 27-year-old victim of Aaron Hernandez in one of the most famous American celebrity murder trials in decades – was originally from St. Croix.
Odin Lloyd was a linebacker for the semi-professional football team the Boston Bandits since 2007 when he was murdered by Hernandez in North Attleborough, Massuchusetts on June 17, 2013.
Lloyd’s death made international headlines because Hernandez was a tight end for the New England Patriots in the National Football League at the time of the killing.
Hernandez, who had a $40 million contract with the Patriots at the time, was found guilty of the murder of Lloyd Wednesday and faces life without parole for the conviction.
Lloyd was born “Odin Leonardo John Lloyd” on November 14, 1985 to Ursula Ward on St. Croix. He was Ward’s first-born and only son and spent a few years in Antigua before eventually moving to Dorchester, Massachusetts.
Lloyd leaves behind a sister, Olivia Thibou and an uncle, Ed Lloyd, who said that he last saw Lloyd on the Sunday before his death.
A Massachusetts neighbor described Lloyd as someone who was physically fit and generally kept to himself.
“Of everybody on this street, he (Lloyd) was the one who could take care of himself,” the neighbor said. “So there had to be some shaky stuff if he was the guy killed.”
