ST. CROIX – The Alexander Hamilton Appreciation Society (AHAS) is coming to St. Croix for a brief ceremony at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday at the Christiansted National Historic site bandstand to commemorate the 250th Anniversary of the arrival Alexander Hamilton to Christiansted, according to a press release issued by the National Park Service (NPS).
Hamilton arrived in 1765 at age 10 from Nevis, and worked as an adolescent for Mr. Cruger, a King Street merchant.
Mr. Rand Scholet, (AHAS) and Mr. Bob White of the Alexander Hamilton Society will preside over the reception of senior Coast Guard officials, as well as dignitaries from Nevis and the United States Virgin Islands. NPS will hold a short program that discusses and honors the achievements of Hamilton, followed by reading proclamations from Nevisian and Virgin Islands dignitaries.
A short walking tour of sites associated with Hamilton will be held shortly afterwards from 1:45PM- 2:30PM.
Before and after the event, the Office of the Governor will be hosting what is being called the ‘Beauty from Ashes Bazaar’, an early childhood event set to take place at the Christiansted National Historic site from 10:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m.
