The Department of Licensing and Consumer Affairs, through a press release issued on Tuesday afternoon, is notifying the public of a voluntary recall by the Niagara Bottling Company of its popular spring water.
Niagara is a bottled water brand that is sold at many establishments in the Virgin Islands. The company is recalling its spring water due to concerns over possible E. Coli bacteria contamination.
The recall does not affect the company’s purified water and is limited to its spring water products. The bacteria were found in the firm’s water supply on June 15, 2015 according to a press release it issued.
E. coli bacteria can make one sick and are a particular concern for people with a weakened immune system, according to company officials. The presence of the bacteria can cause diarrhea, cramps, nausea, headaches or other symptoms.
The products were sold under the brand names: Acadia, Acme, Big Y, Best Yet, 7-Eleven, Niagara, Nature’s Place, Pricerite, Superchill, Morning Fresh, Shaws, Shoprite, Western Beef Blude and Wegman’s.
The affected products are those having code identifications that begin with the letter F and A, that were manufactured between June 10 and June 18 of 2015. The label should also read: BEST BY 08DEC2016.
