All the territory’s beaches tested by DPNR are safe for swimming and fishing for the upcoming July 4 weekend, according to a press release the department issued on Thursday afternoon.
DPNR says it tested 34 beaches and found that they meet water quality standards, however due to the heavy presence of sargassum seaweed along the shoreline, Grapetree Bay on St. Croix could not be tested.
The safe beaches on St. Croix include the following:
Stoney Ground, Protestant Cay, Chenay Bay, Buccaneer, Cane Bay, Cramer Park, Rainbow, Shoy’s, New Fort (Ft. Louise Augusta), Pelican Cove (Comorant), Halfpenny, Princess (Condo Row), Dorsch, Frederiksted Public Beach, Columbus Landing and Sprat Hall.
On St. Thomas, these are the beaches safe for fishing and swimming this weekend:
Secret Harbor, Hull Bay, Brewer’s Bay, Lindquist, Bolongo Bay, Sapphire, Bluebeards, Frenchman’s Bay, Vessup Bay, Magen’s Bay, Coki Point, Lindbergh Bay and Water Bay.
Safe St. John beaches this weekend are:
Cruz Bay, Oppenhiemer, Johnson’s Bay, Great Cruz Bay and Frank Bay.
DPNR says it will continue to monitor impacted areas and waters.
