ST. CROIX — Chief of Police Arthur Hector Sr. announced yesterday the arrest of Jose Saldana Jr., in connection with a case that went cold two years ago, according to a press release issued on Friday by VIPD Public Information Officer Kevin Jackson.
Jose Saldana Jr. was arrested Friday on a bench warrant issued by Superior Court Judge Miguel Camacho, charging him with conspiracy to commit kidnapping, conspiracy to commit robbery and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime of violence, according to the release.
“The criminal acts perpetrated by Saldana occurred two years ago and it’s due to the dogged-determination and diligence of individuals within the Criminal Investigation Bureau and Major Crimes Unit along with members of the community providing tips that this arrest came about,” said Hector.
“The collaborative effort between police and the community was instrumental in this arrest and must continue. The arrest in this case is proof-positive to those families awaiting closure on their pending cases, that solving crimes may take some time, but we, here at the VIPD are dedicated to ensure closure on all of our open cases,” he added.
Saldana Jr. was arrested by members of the Criminal Investigation Bureau at 12:18 p.m. Unable to make bail of $150,000, he was remanded to the Bureau of Corrections pending his advise-of-rights hearing.
According to Jackson, aspects of the case continue to be investigated; therefore further comment on the matter would not be appropriate at this time.
