The Virgin Islands Department of Education State Office of Special Nutrition Programs wishes to inform the general public of the upcoming distribution dates of bonus USDA commodities in both the St. Croix and St. Thomas-St. John districts.

The Department’s Emergency Food Assistance Program uses income, not age, to determine eligibility. Commodity distribution is reserved for individuals or heads of household who meet one of the following criteria:

1. Gross family income does not exceed the 185% of the Federal Income Eligibility Guidelines for July 1, 2014 thru June 30, 2016 (see income eligibility guideline table below)

2. A client of any of the following income-certified assistance programs:

  • Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program
  • Medical Assistance Program
  • Tenant of Subsidized Public Housing

Distribution packages will be limited to one per household. All eligible persons are to report to the specified locations on the dates listed below:

ST. THOMAS

Location: Lockhart Elementary School cafeteria

Date: Saturday, July 18

Time: 7:00 a.m. until supplies are depleted

ST. JOHN

Location: Julius E. Sprauve School cafeteria

Date: Saturday, July 25

Time: 9:00 a.m. until supplies are depleted

ST. CROIX

Location: Charles H. Emanuel School cafeteria

Date: Saturday, August 1

Time: 7:00 a.m. until supplies are depleted

 To obtain commodities, proper identification must be presented. Persons completing the self-certification form are required to provide information about their gross income. Persons unable to provide satisfactory information to the distribution site staff will not receive a commodity package.

Potential recipients should bring sturdy boxes or bags to assist with the transport of the food packages.
