ST. CROIX — The Department of Planning and Natural Resources has issued its weekly beach advisory press release, making known the results of its beach water quality monitoring program, which evaluates weekly water quality at popular swimming beaches throughout the territory.
According to DPNR, Coki Point in St. Thomas and Sprat Hall here are unsafe this weekend.
The following beaches, however, are safe for swimming and fishing:
St. Croix
Stoney Ground, Protestant Cay, Chenay Bay, Buccaneer, Cane Bay, Cramer Park, Rainbow, Shoy’s, New Fort (Ft. Louise Augusta), Halfpenny, Dorsch, Frederiksted Public Beach and Princess (Condo Row).
St. Thomas
Hull Bay, Brewer’s Bay, Lindquist, Bolongo Bay, Sapphire, Bluebeards, Vessup Bay, Lindbergh Bay, Secret Harbor, Frenchman’s Bay and Water Bay Magen’s Bay.
St. John
Oppenhiemer, Cruz Bay, Great Cruz and Bay Frank Bay.
DPNR says Grapetree Bay, Columbus Landing and Pelican Cove (Comorant) beaches here and Johnson’s Bay on St. John could not be sampled this week due to the heavy presence of seaweed along the shoreline.
The department will continue to monitor the impacted areas and waters. For additional information regarding water quality call the Division of Environmental Protection at 773-1082 in St. Croix.
