ST. CROIX — A 29-year-old Estate Upper Love man died on Sunday morning when a truck he was driving lost control and crashed into a tree, VIPD Public Information Officer Kevin Jackson announced this afternoon.
Acccording to Jackson, at about 6:24 a.m. the 911 emergency call center received notification of a major auto accident on the Queen Mary Highway (Centerline Road) in the vicinity of the Virgin Islands Waste Management Authority, located in Williams Delight.
Preliminary information provided by the VIPD determined that a male victim was operating a black Ford pickup truck when he apparently lost control of the vehicle struck a tree, causing the vehicle to break apart upon impact.
Ambulatory services were summoned to the scene, including Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs), who examined the victim and found no signs of life.
The deceased has been identified as Bennet Augustin.
Investigators with the Traffic Investigation Bureau are continuing their investigation into the matter.
