All Public School Activities Suspended On Thursday

ST. THOMAS – The Virgin Islands Department of Education has announced the suspension of all school-based activities scheduled for Thursday, August 27 due to approaching Tropical Storm Erika, DOE announced via press release late Wednesday.

The suspension of activities is effective for all schools in the St. Thomas-St. John and St. Croix School Districts.

Affected activities may include, but are not limited to grade-level orientations, ID card and insurance registration, physical education uniform sales and others.

Additionally, the Department’s main offices in Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas and Christiansted, St. Croix will be closed on August 27. The Virgin Islands Government will also be closed that day and non-essential employees are asked to not report for work.

Education Commissioner Sharon McCollum urges all students and their families to take every precaution to remain safe during and after the impending storm.
