ST. THOMAS – Hugo Ogando, 37, and Mario De Los Santos, 39, pleaded guilty in District Court on St. Thomas earlier this week to conspiracy to possess cocaine with the intent to distribute, United States Attorney Ronald W. Sharpe announced. Sentencing is scheduled for December 18, 2015.
According to the plea agreement filed with the court, on April 21, and 22, 2015, Ogando and De Los Santos agreed to sell 4.5 kilograms of cocaine. Members of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) arrested them when they attempted the sale.
The drug trafficking conspiracy charge to which they pleaded guilty carries a sentence of not less than five years and up to a maximum of 40 years in prison and a fine of $5 million.
This case is the result of an investigation by the DEA and it is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Sigrid M. Tejo-Sprotte.
