Subway Orange Grove Robbed At Gunpoint

Breaking News / News / Virgin Islands / August 30, 2015

ST. CROIX — The Subway fast food restaurant located in Orange Grove was robbed at gunpoint Friday night by two masked men who managed to steal an undisclosed amount of cash after threatening the employees, VIPD Public Information Officer Kevin Jackson announced this afternoon.

According to Jackson, at about 9:10 p.m. on Friday, the 911 emergency call center received notification of a robbery at the Orange Grove Subway. Responding officers arrived at the location and spoke with one of the two staff members who were at the restaurant when the robbery occurred. One of the employees said she was cleaning the establishment as part of her nightly closing procedures when two masked men entered the restaurant.

One of the men jumped over the counter, pointed a gun at her and instructed that she get on the ground. The suspect then went into the prep area of the facility and returned with her co-worker in tow. The co-worker was then ordered to open the cash register as the masked men took an undisclosed amount of cash from it. The employee was also ordered to open the safe or risk being shot, and the men took the contents of the safe, too.

Before fleeing the scene, the men confiscated the mobile phones of both employees and the store’s phone also, as they left the restaurant and left the two female staff members unharmed.

The Criminal Investigation Bureau is investigating the incident.
