7th Annual Governor’s Summer Reading Challenge Ends Today

Community Center / News / Virgin Islands / September 11, 2015

The 7th Annual Governor’s Summer Reading Challenge ends on Friday, September 11.

The Challenge given to students at all public, private and parochial schools in grades K-6 was to read five or more books from June 8 through September 11. These students are the Territory’s current first, second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh graders.

Schools are asked to remind students to turn in their tracking sheets and designate a member of their staff to facilitate the collection of the sheets.

In the St. Thomas-St. John District, all tracking sheets are to be delivered to the Department of Education’s District Office Curriculum Center ATTN: Kalamis Maduro, elementary programs coordinator, no later than Tuesday, September 15, 2015.

In the St. Croix District, all tracking sheets are to be delivered to the Department of Education’s Curriculum Center ATTN: Jeselle Cruse-Peter, elementary programs coordinator, no later than Tuesday, September 15, 2015.

Student tracking sheets are asked to be arranged in alphabetical order and separated by grade level. The tracking sheets will help to recognize students for their commitment to accepting the Challenge at planned culminating activities on all three islands. Activity dates and locations will be announced at a later date.

For more information, contact Ms. Maduro in St. Thomas at (340) 775-2250 ext. 8525 or Ms. Cruse-Peter in St. Croix at (340) 778-1600 ext. 7523.
