ST. CROIX — In just seven days following breakout gun violence on this island, which spiraled out of control following the murder of Jermaine “Bird” Williams, a man was found dead in Campo Rico, slumped in an Isuzu Rodeo with multiple gunshot wounds about his body.
That’s according to a press release Kevin Jackson, VIPD’s public information officer issued this morning. It says at about 9:12 p.m., the 911 emergency call center received notification of shots having been fired in the vicinity of the shanty in Campo Rico.
Responding officers arrived at the location and discovered a black Isuzu Rodeo with an unresponsive black male in the drivers’ seat with multiple gunshot wounds to his body. Emergency medical technicians arrived on the scene and checked the individual, but found no signs of life.
Police are withholding the victim’s name pending notification of next of kin.
According to the report, there is currently no information on the suspect(s) involved and police are asking that anyone with information to contact the Criminal Investigation Bureau at 340-712-6024 or 911.
It was only Tuesday that then-Acting Governor Osbert Potter lifted the territory-wide state of emergency declared following the violent weekend.
Potter also ordered the territory’s peace officers, deputized over last weekend to aid the VIPD in its effort to combat the violence, to resume their normal functions with their respective agencies.
