The remnants of Tropical Storm Grace is expected to bring rainfall and thunderstorms to the U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico today, VITEMA announced via press release this morning.
The government agency, citing the National Hurricane Center, says a large area of disorganized showers and thunderstorms near the northern Leeward Islands associated with the remnants Grace will make landfall later today. Grace will also bring gusty winds, according to NHC.
The system will reach the territory and Puerto Rico by this afternoon before pushing west northwestward across Hispaniola and the southeastern Bahamas this weekend. This means that some heavy rainfall is forecast across the northern Lesser Antilles today and then across the USVI and Puerto Rico from this afternoon through tonight.
The National Hurricane Center is monitoring two other systems:
- A tropical wave located just offshore the west coast of Africa is producing disorganized shower activity. Some gradual development of this wave is possible by early next week while it moves generally westward across the tropical Atlantic at about 15 miles per hour.
- A small low pressure system located about 900 miles southwest of the Azores is producing some showers and thunderstorms. Development, if any, of this low is expected to be slow to occur while it moves westward to west-northwestward at about 10 miles per hour over the next several days.
VITEMA say it’s continuing to monitor reports on these weather systems and is advising the public to do the same.
