Emancipation Drive In Frederiksted Closed For Repairs Beginning Monday

Community Center / News / Virgin Islands / September 13, 2015

ST. CROIX — Department of Public Works has announced the closure of Emancipation Drive as it gets ready, from Monday, Sept. 14 from 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., to commence long overdue repairs on the patchwork road filled with potholes, a press release issued on Wednesday has made known.

The repairs stretch from the Hannah’s Rest stoplights in the vicinity of the police Headquarters to the Claude O’ Markoe Elementary School. Road repairs are expected to continue through Friday, September 25, 2015.

DPW Acting Commissioner Gustav James is urging motorists to exercise caution and look for the flagmen and traffic signs as they travel the affected roadway. He also apologized for any inconvenience the roadwork may cause.

The public is asked to adhere to the directions given to ensure their safety.

“The goal of DPW remains that we undertake a successful project with minimal impact on the community,” James concluded.

Correction: Sept. 14, 2015

A previous version of this article, because of a text error, incorrectly listed the beginning of repair work on the Emancipation Drive road as August 14, when it should have been September 14 — which is today. The error also misstated the time of the repairs as 10:00 a.m, when it’s actually 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. The story has been updated to reflect the correct information.
