ST. CROIX — The Police Athletic League PAL), under the direction of the Crime Prevention Bureau of the Virgin Islands Police Department, kicks off on Monday, VIPD Public Information Officer Kevin Jackson announced via press release on Friday.
The program will be held on this island at the PAL facility in Estate Richmond (in the vicinity of the David Hamilton Jackson Terrace Housing Community), from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday.
The fee is $25.00 per student and each participant’s immunization record is required at the time of registration.
“We’re servicing students between kindergarten through eighth grade, with homework assistance, along with tutoring in math and language arts,” said Officer Gail Liburd, member of the Crime Prevention Bureau. “We’ll also have computers available so that the students, especially students in the public schools may continue using the reading program that they use in school.”
She added: “We also plan to reach out to those high schools students, that don’t have access to a computer or the internet once they’re home to come over and join us, not to be part of the after school program but use the computer lab to complete their assignments.”
For more info, contact the Crime Prevention Bureau at 340-773-6393 and ask for Officer Liburd.
