ST. THOMAS — A Puerto Rico man, apparently hiding on this island, was taken into custody by VIPD officers for crimes he committed in 2012, the force’s Media Specialist Sakeeda Freeman announced late Thursday.

According to Ms. Freeman, Leonardo Pizarro-Torres, residing in Hospital Ground, was arrested at about 1:45 p.m. Thursday, on an arrest warrant issued by the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico Court of Justice, Court of First Instance.

He is being charged with two counts of first degree murder and a count of attempted murder for crimes he committed three years ago.

Pizarro-Torres was transported to Puerto Rico where his bail is currently set at $1.5 million. He is now awaiting his advise-of-rights hearing.

The case, according to the VIPD release, was a joint effort between the police department’s Special Operations Bureau here and the U.S. Marshal Service.
