ST. THOMAS — Over 1,000 Virgin Islanders attended the red carpet premiere of Timeless: A Virgin Islands Love Story at the Reichhold Center on October, according to a press release issued by Make-Lite Marketing, the firm responsible for promoting the movie.
According to the release, the cast and crew could not comprehend the amount of support and love they felt from the community.
“It’s a great feeling to see so many people turn out to see this independent project we all worked so hard to complete” stated Monai Greene, one of Timeless’ actresses.
Audience members not only expressed their approval of the film during the movie (which provided comic relief for everyone), but there was also overwhelmingly positive feedback on the Timeless Facebook page as attendees attempted to spark envy in their friends who hadn’t seen the movie. The release further stated that due to the success of Timeless’ premiere, the production team has decided to host an encore screening of the film at the Reichhold Center on Tuesday, November 17.
Gates will open at 6:00 p.m. and the movie will begin at 7:00 p.m. It will be hosted by actor Carl Anthony Payne, II. The event will be more casual than the red carpet premiere, nonetheless organizers are encouraging those who intend to attend to “dress up.”
Timeless is a love story, and like some love stories, especially Caribbean ones, things get complicated. Some of the social issues explored in the movie are the slave trade of the past and the human trafficking currently being seen in the territory, the release issued several months ago stated.
The movie opens in Ghana, West Africa in 1800 with two young people passionately in love. It is, though, an ill-fated love, made more pointed by the Atlantic Slave Trade. In present day St. Thomas, Alphonse, a young Virgin Islander, comes home from New York after publishing his first novel to great reviews. When a beautiful young woman from the Dominican Republic catches his eye and heart, an unknown history begins to repeat itself.
This Caribbean drama was written and directed by Edward LaBorde, Jr. and produced by David Edgecombe. It stars Kmisha Victoria Counts, Brummell Germain, Monai Greene, Julien K. Baa, Sulay de la Rosa, Elaine Jacobs, Bianca Castillo, Shanaka Harris, Margarita Aqustin, Laurel Samuel, Ameriko Cabrera, Sean Georges, Janiesha John and Kenya Eugene.
“Making this film has been a complicated love story in and of itself,” stated Mr. Laborde. “It’s not easy pulling together a team with no budget and little community interest to try to get your vision onscreen. We couldn’t have completed this film without the hard working crew, actors, friends, family and generous partners. Independent films belong to everyone that had something to do with its creation and we want the entire village that helped make this possible to join in our celebration.”
