ST. THOMAS — A press release VIPD Public Information Officer Kevin Jackson issued this afternoon revealed that two people, a male and female, drowned last night in a boating accident that occurred at the docking facility located at the Crown Bay Marina, at around 7:00 p.m.
According to Mr. Jackson, the 911 emergency call center received notification of the accident at the aforementioned time. The report says five people, traveling in a dinghy, were making their way from the Phipps Landing Dock, located on Water Island, to the docking facility at Crown Bay Marina when the dinghy struck a concrete piling as it was approaching the marina.
The male and female victims were thrown into the water by the impact of the collision and drowned. The other three individuals were rushed to the Roy Lester Schneider Regional Medical Center, where they were being treated for severe, but non-threatening injuries, Mr. Jackson added.
The names of the male and female victims who drowned are being withheld pending next of kin notification, Mr. Jackson concluded.
