ST. THOMAS — The Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority announced on Tuesday that there will be an emergency service interruption for a portion of St. Thomas Sector #3 today from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m., which will affect customers in the Frenchtown Ballpark area.
According to WAPA, the interruption is necessary to allow crews to remove cutouts from a utility pole by the Frenchtown Post Office and relocate them to a pole by the PG gas station. WAPA says the cutouts will better protect the public in the unlikely event of a downed primary power line.
The semi-autonomous entity also announced an emergency service interruption for a portion of St. Thomas Sector #3 on Thursday morning from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., affecting customers in the Frenchtown/Ackley Media Group radio stations area.
The Thursday morning interruption is necessary, WAPA says, because it allows crews to remove cutouts from a utility pole at the entrance to the Addelita Cancryn Junior High School and relocate them to another pole by the roadside. The move will better protect the public in the unlikely event of a downed primary power line, according to WAPA.
Motorists are asked to proceed cautiously in the affected areas while crews are working. WAPA also apologized for any inconveniences caused by the emergency interruptions and says every effort will be made to restore service as quickly as possible.
