ST. THOMAS — Department of Public Works Commissioner Gustav James announced via press release today that Island Roads Corporation will soon begin construction-related work on Centerline Road, St. John, as part of the Emergency Relief Repair Project.
According to the release, the project is comprised of three sites along Route 10, Centerline Road. Work will include construction of retaining walls, drainage improvements and road repairs. The project is 100% funded by the Federal Highway Administration.
In the coming days, the contractor will begin installing construction signs, temporary traffic control devices and mobilizing of construction equipment within the limits of the project, the release further stated.
A single lane road closure will be implemented on Route 10 in the west-bound lane throughout the duration of the project. The closed section will be signalized or provided with flagmen to accommodate the seamless flow of traffic in both directions, in an alternating pattern. According to the release, the project is scheduled to be completed by June 24, 2016.
“We thank the public for their cooperation and understanding,” Mr. James said.
The Temporary traffic control devices that will be installed are to assist motorists and pedestrians throughout the work zones. Flaggers will also be present when needed, and motorists are encouraged to proceed through these areas with caution while paying special attention to posted signage and construction personnel.
The announcement follows recent road projects throughout the territory, the latest being road repairs in Sion Hill and Company Street on St. Croix.
